So what is it with all the empty egg cartons in the Art Room? They are the perfect size to dispense paint into for the kids so that everyone can have "their own" paints when we paint. The kids do a great job of keeping me supplied so that we always have enough on hand. How much is enough? Just to give you an example; if any grade level is painting I will need approximately 40 (1 dozen) egg cartons for the week! I cut the tops off, then cut them in half. Here are some of them in use.
What is really great about the egg cartons (or egg crates as the kids call them) is that I am able to pour small portions that are plenty for a project but would look like "not enough" on a different type of pallet.
As you can see the egg crate take up very little room on the table, allowing for each child to have "their own".
For this particular project we took our inspiration from Dale Chihuly's glass-works, while learning to draw and paint "over" "under" and "behind".
The egg crates also allow the students to mix custom colors.
There is just something about paint-the art room gets quiet, the kids are totally absorbed, and the work is absolutely fabulous!
